Aromas from the land of the Riviera,
on your tables... with love

Allium schoenoprasum
The origins of the name have become somewhat of a mystery, there is one hypothosy that derives from the Celtics " all = hot, burning" refering to the taste and rather pungent odour. Probably because of its smell, from some point of view its considered magical, a protectress. It has a very delicate aroma similar to that of the onion, but less pungent and tart and is used to enhance a dish instead of garlic or onion which could give too strong a taste. It has antioxidant, antiseptic and bacterial properties and therefore can be used to make a poultice to cure acne, insect bites, burns and scalds and chapped skin. It us also used as an ornamental plant due to its slender leaves and inflorescencal characteristics.
